Other ways of improving your reading speed

Other ways of improving your reading speed

September 25, 2015 teacherlab 0 1887

One way of doing this is making exercises in order to coordinate the rhythm.

For example:

Try to read some texts as fast as you can, throwing just one quick glance at each phrase, or each set of words in which a line is divided.

The more words you know and the more familiar you are with them, the faster you will identify them.

Comprehensive vocabulary

Like we said, the fewer the pauses in reading, the higher the reading speed. But the duration of each pause depends on the speed at which we identify the words comprised in our field of vision, and we will recognize them only if we are familiar with them. This means that we will read at higher speed if the range of our vocabulary is wider. Therefore, I recommend that you make the dictionary one of your best friends.

Moreover, if we are astute, we can infer the meaning of a word from its context, from the meaning of the sentence in which the given word is comprised. In other cases, we can read following the main ideas and the context, skipping irrelevant or redundant words.

Health and mood

Generally, any sight problem results in a decrease of the reading speed, in which case seeing an ophthalmologist is imperative. In addition, if you feel tired, lack energy, feel weary, this will inevitably cause a decrease in the reading speed and efficiency. Don’t read in the car, because this puts a strain on the eyes. Make sure you have plenty of rest, relax physically and get focused in order to take full advantage of the time and use it efficiently, thus realizing a perfectly comprehensive reading session.
