Implementation-Facilitation
A. Motivation
1. Before creating our web, we will review the term "community".
2. Before creating our web, we will review where our community is located.
3. Before creating our web, we will review the KWL chart.
B. Method
4. The teacher will ask a student what the term "community" means.
5. The teacher will ask a student to tell the class where our community is located.
6. Next, the class will quickly review the KWL chart.
7. Then the class will work as a group to brainstorm the important place found within our community, such as the fire station, police station, school and the senior center.
8. After the class has webbed as many important places as possible we will add the important people that work in those places.
9. After webbing as many of those places as possible, the students will choose one of those places and draw a picture in their notebooks.
10. Then the students will write why that place is important and why we need the people that work there.
a. Discuss with the students why we need certain people within the community.
b. For example, we need policemen to keep us safe and fight crime.
Grouping
1. The students will work as a whole class while reviewing the KWL chart.
2. They will also work as a whole class while brainstorming to complete the web of important places and people.
3. Then they will work independently to draw and write about that place in their notebooks.
