The good side of exams

The good side of exams

September 19, 2015 teacherlab 0 2580

Unfortunately, exams have become a goal in themselves, as students only learn in order to pass them. However, in spite of their notoriety, of the fear and anxiety they cause, they are inevitable in a selective society that offers the best jobs and highest standard of living to well-prepared and skilled people. I agree that they have negative sides and that the disadvantages far outweigh the advantages, but I still consider we should see their good side, too. So, here you have a list of advantages, and you can add a few more.

– They test your ability to analyze, summarize, memorize, store information and recall it when necessary, so they are a good mental exercise.

– They help you to identify your study defects, the lacks of knowledge, where you need to improve and the action that you have to take.

– They are a good chance to improve and refine your knowledge over a certain topic, because they force you to revise and repeat the contents multiple times, to make connections and remember the essential contents very well.

– Finally, they prepare you for the professional life, since throughout our lives, we are asked to prove our abilities over and over again.
